Our farm started when my husband retired and we decided to get a pair of goats. We got two Nigerian Dwarf female goats. We loved them immediately. I had no idea goats were such personable animals. They are sweet and gentle and about the size of a medium dog.
I had the best intentions of mating the goats, milking them and making soap and cheese with the milk. Sounds simple. Right? Well we have had some real highs and lows. We did mate Nutmeg and Molly and they had two boys and a girl. Hmmm. I didn't count on boys. Now what?
Well we managed to raise the babies and vaccinate them and disband them. I cried. Farming looks much easier than it actually is. We wethered the boys and sold them for pets. That's when I first became aware that people ate goats. I made sure people knew they were too small to really eat. They got a great home and they are really beefy.
Molly and Nutmeg had two more boys and a little girl this year. Now we have Molly and her daughter Dolly, Nutmeg and her daughter Margaret. We have milk and cheese and make soap.
Thanks for visiting the farm. Hope you will join us next week. I'll be share pictures of our chickens and the little adventure we had getting them. Till then be good to yourself.
